Red Admiral
Although a common butterfly in nearby gardens, the Red Admiral is not seen in large numbers in Latchmore. The most consistent time to see Red Admiral is late in September, when the ivy begins to flower, being the best source of pollen in early Autumn. In years when the ivy flowers late, this seasonal feast can come after monitoring ends, so numbers fluctuate considerably. A strong flyer, it can sometimes be seen in flight over the heathland.
