Painted Lady

Starting the year in North Africa, successive generations of Painted Lady migrate northwards as the summer progresses.  In 2019, conditions were perfect for a huge influx to reach southern England, giving us the first "Painted Lady Summer" since I began monitoring in Latchmore; so from being a rare visitor, it suddenly became emblematic of the year.  It is attracted to the nectar of heather flowers.
