Comma

Another relatively scarce butterfly in Latchmore, the Comma can be seen either as one of the over-wintering species on the wing early in April, or from July onwards in later broods, particularly in September.  The mixed thorn scrub of Section 1 of the route is a favoured location, particularly where sunny, sheltered spots can be found for it to bask. The dry, hot summer of 2022 proved too much for the Comma, with no sightings after mid-July.
