Small Skipper

This tiny golden Skipper is only seen for a brief season, usually in July, and almost exclusively among the grasses at the edge of the gravel track through Alderhill Inclosure (Section 5 of the route).  More at home in meadow habitats, it seems to be just about clinging on here.  All the individuals photographed appear to be Small, rather than the very similar Essex, Skippers.  After being seen in small numbers each year, 2021 was the first year when none were found on route, but the hot summer of 2022 saw a return, with sightings on 3 weeks.
